The Story in Review- Chapter Twenty-seven
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most well attested to historical event in all of antiquity. When using the standard tests applied to all historical documents of the ancient world the New Testament documents (the individual Gospels and letters) “pass” with flying colors so as to erase any doubt that they are anything but factual in the information they present. JESUS IS RISEN!
The Greek word “pistis” can mean, “knowledge, assent, faith.” Knowledge is familiarity with the Biblical information. Assent is agreement that what they say is true. Faith is trust that this information is true for you. Hence, our faith is both an affirmation that the events of the resurrection are historically factual events and these events have personal significance for us in that we trust that through them we are saved.
“If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.” I COR 15
