Bethany 101 & 201 Classes to Begin

Bethany 101 and Bethany 201 are courses that explore the key truths of the Christian faith from a Lutheran perspective and the process and purpose of membership at Bethany using the Bethany Blueprint as our design.

Attendance at 101 is required for those joining Bethany Lutheran Church.  Bethany 201 is required for those joining Bethany Lutheran apart from the transferring of membership from another LCMS congregation.  Those transferring membership are welcome to attend our 201 sessions.

  • Bethany 101 is a one session experience where we talk about the history of Bethany, our vision, structure and the Bethany blueprint.
  • Bethany 201 covers the core basics of the Christian faith from a Lutheran perspective, in 3 sessions.  We use discussion, instruction and video presentation in each session.

The next Bethany 101 sessions will be held on Sunday, April 2 and again Sunday, April 30.  These sessions are held in the Parish Lounge and begin at 10:55AM, running approximately an hour to an hour and a half. Child care is available with an RSVP.

The next Bethany 201 sessions begins on Sunday, May 7 and concludes on Sunday, May 21.  Once again sessions are held in the Parish Lounge, begin at 10:55, run approximately an hour to an hour and a half and offer child care with an RSVP.

Please RSVP your attendance with our church office at (562)421-4711 or by emailing our Office Administrator Cindy Morrison at cmorrison@bethanylutheran.org.

Easter Invitation:

The Board of Evangelism would like to ask the congregation for their help in spreading the "seeds" of the great news of our Lord's Resurrection by inviting non Bethany members to join us for our Easter Sunday services.  We will have a table set up in Friendship Square on April 2nd between services and on April 9th at our One Service on Palm Sunday with packets of flower seeds that have an invitation to join us for our Easter services on them. We ask that you come by and take as many as you want to put on your neighbors' front porches, hand out to co-workers (if permitted at your place of employment), and give to other parents at your children's sporting practices/games, etc. We appreciate your help in "growing" our membership at Bethany, while spreading the great news of Jesus Christ.

Bethany’s 9th Annual Easter Egg Hunt

This annual event will by “hopping” on Saturday, April 8, 2017. The festivities will begin at 10:00AM with crafts, a short Easter message, three age appropriate hunts (preschool to 4th grade), snacks, and prizes! Start thinking of which “little bunny” you would like to invite!

Ways we would like YOUR help in the Easter Egg Hunt this year:

  1. Pray for the kids and parents attending, that the seeds of faith will be planted and watered during this event.
  2. Bake some delicious snacks for those attending.
  3. Volunteer to help stuff the children’s goodie bags.
  4. Help the day of the event: hide the Easter eggs, help set up tables, decorate the gym and hunt locations, help families with the crafts, arrange the refreshments, and watch the excitement on the little ones’ faces.

Please prayerfully consider how you can lend a hand and sign up at the Connections Table on Sunday morning, see a member of the Board of Evangelism, or contact Sarah O’Conner by leaving a message with the church office.

BLS Alumni Event at Blair Field

Commitment Sunday – Sunday, April 9th:

Following our One Service on Palm Sunday, plan to stay for a wonderful lunch and program.  Boxed lunches will be for sale starting today in Friendship Square.  Menu items include two kinds of sandwiches and two different salads from Corner Bakery.  All lunches include a drink and a cookie.  The cost is just $12.  A kids option will also be available that will include either a hot dog or PB&J sandwich, chips, fruit, and a drink.  There is NO cost for the kids’ lunch but we need an RSVP.  Right after lunch young kids up to 5th grade are invited to a magical presentation while kids in Junior High and High school are invited to hear an inspiring presentation about living out the faith.  A dessert bar will be open for all kids after their presentations. You don’t want to miss this awesome event.

Christ In The Passover:

Please plan to join us for a very special presentation on Wednesday, April 12th at 7:00PM in the Sanctuary as we welcome Josh Sofaer, a missionary from Jews For Jesus.  Mr. Sofaer will present a program called Christ In The Passover.  This presentation shows the link between the ancient Festival of Redemption and Christ as the Lamb of God.  This sermonic demonstration is visual, so you will actually see a table set with traditional Passover items. Mr. Sofaer will use Scripture as well as the visual items to walk through a Jewish Passover seder, weaving the story of the Exodus together with the life, death and resurrection of Christ. The words Christ spoke in the upper room come alive as each Hebraic item is carefully explained.  This is an amazing way to begin our Holy Week journey to the cross and the open tomb.  You won’t want to miss it!

Parents of Little Ones:

Are you looking for a play group for your kids or grandkids that provides both play for your child and conversation with other parents and caregivers?  Join us on Tuesday, April 25th from 8:30-9:30AM in the Bethany Nursery for our first Parent Play Group.  Moms and Dads, Grandmas and Grandpas are welcome.  Got questions?  Contact Christi Koehlinger. Call the church office for Christi's contact information.

Are You Receiving The Bethany Bullet?

The Bethany Bullet is a weekly capsule of worship highlights and big information that your brain may or may not have 'downloaded' from the prior Sunday. The purpose is to bolster you in faith, build you up in the key Biblical themes shared the previous Sunday in worship, to bring to mind the important issues on Bethany's plate and to broaden your awareness of opportunities of service to your Lord, your church, and your community. Tell a friend about The Bethany Bullet.  Email Aimee Coleman (acoleman@bethanylutheran.org) with your name and email address to be added to the distribution list.
